To date, the Western world has experienced three industrial revolutions.
The first one about steam, in 1769, with the birth of the steam engine by James Watt and its use in water mining extraction.
The second with electricity, around 1870 and the third, around 1970, with the first spread of information technology.
The latter, at the basis of a digital transformation that has disrupted world trade, has paved – with its rapid and overwhelming innovations – the way for the so-called fourth industrial revolution: Manufacturing 4.0.
